Age & Disabilities Odyssey Conference

Sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Minnesota Board on Aging, this conference is held every two years at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center in Duluth.

This conference provides original, thought-provoking sessions on a variety of topics related to the support of seniors and persons with disabilities; in order to provide knowledge that attendees can easily relate to and put into action.

The Foley Area C.A.R.E. Program is the grateful recipient of a large portion of our funding through a grant from the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services. As such we are invited, excited, and required to attend this event...

Safety for Senior

Theft is consistently among the top five most reported crimes in Benton County. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to help prevent becoming a victim of theft. Theft is often a crime of opportunity. A thief sees something of value left unattended or unsecured and steals it. Taking the simple step of securing your property will prevent a large percentage of would-be thieves. Locking outbuildings, locking vehicles, putting away easily taken items (bicycles, lawn mowers, tools, chain saws, etc.) inside a locked shed, taking keys out of vehicles, or any other actions that will make it difficult for a thief to take your property are the best defense against theft.

Conceal any items of value from easy view...

Volunteer Opportunities

Many seniors can stay in their homes with just a little help. We are always excited to welcome new volunteers, both individuals and groups, who are willing to assist seniors with rides, light housekeeping, yard work, and handyman services.

Spring is here and with it comes a need for help with yard clean up, and garden and flower bed preparation. Could you volunteer some time to help? When you contact the C.A.R.E. office at 320-968-7848, we will help you pair your talents with a senior in need.

New this year: Foley Area C.A.R.E. will have a concession stand at the Foley Fun Days (June 19-21)!

The Foley Kiwanis have generously offered their successful booth for our exclusive use. We will need lots of volunteers for various tasks, from set-up and take down, to daily sales in the booth...

For a Laugh

for a laughAn old man decided his old wife was getting hard of hearing. So he called her doctor to make an appointment to have her hearing checked. The doctor said he could see her in two weeks, and meanwhile, there’s a simple, informal test the husband could do to give the doctor some idea of the dimensions of the problem.

“Here’s what you do. Start about 40 feet away from her, and speak in a normal conversational tone and see if she hears you. If no, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response.”

So that evening she’s in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he’s in the living room, he says to himself, “I’m about 40 feet away, let’s see what happens.”

“Honey, what’s for supper?” No response from his wife.

So he moves to the other end of the room, about 30 feet away.
