Thank You, Pastor Al!

Foley Area C.A.R.E. staff and members of the Board of Directors and their spouses, attended a dinner celebrating the retirement of Pastor Al Jergenson, at Coyote Moon Grille on September 22nd.

In 2002 Pastor Al was a member of the steering committee, and became the first chairman of the Board of Directors of the newly formed Foley Area C.A.R.E. Program. Carol Mersinger, Director of the CROSS Center in Foley, served with Pastor Al in those early days on the steering committee and told us, “He is a visionary who understood how a program like this could benefit and grow in this community”. We agree; his contributions of time and resources to C.A.R.E. over the years has been instrumental in its success.

It is with great affection that we thank this loving, kind and generous man, and wish h...

Safety for Seniors

Opioid abuse is a fast growing problem across the country and here locally as well. Addicts go to great lengths to find ways to feed their addiction. Sometimes that includes stealing medications from others. If you have ever had any kind of surgery or other medical condition that resulted in substantial pain, you have likely been prescribed an opioid pain killer. These medications are known by a number of different names. Morphine, methadone, buprenorphine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone are the generic names for these medications. They are also sold under the brand names of Vicodin, Percodan, Tylox, OxyContin, Percocet, and Demerol. It is not uncommon for patients to have unused pills left after recovering from their medical condition...

Foley Area C.A.R.E. volunteers, staff, and board members gathered at the First Presbyterian Church in Foley on Thursday, July 27, 2017 for our annual volunteer appreciation dinner.

Pastor Al Jergenson and Dennis Clark barbecued hamburgers, while staff and other board members served volunteers at the build-a-burger buffet. The room was filled with laughter and chatter, as the children of the Brian and Paula Lorenz family bused tables and served beverages and desserts.

Our guest speaker was Krisie Barron, a licensed social worker, who spoke to our group about “Normal Aging/Not Normal Aging as it Pertains to Alzheimer’s”. Her interactive presentation included valuable information for current caregivers, respite caregivers, and advance planning for those of us who may need help in the future...

Safety for Senior

Theft is consistently among the top five most reported crimes in Benton County. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to help prevent becoming a victim of theft. Theft is often a crime of opportunity. A thief sees something of value left unattended or unsecured and steals it. Taking the simple step of securing your property will prevent a large percentage of would-be thieves. Locking outbuildings, locking vehicles, putting away easily taken items (bicycles, lawn mowers, tools, chain saws, etc.) inside a locked shed, taking keys out of vehicles, or any other actions that will make it difficult for a thief to take your property are the best defense against theft.

Conceal any items of value from easy view...
